Spezialisations<\/h2>\r\n
With the knowledge base acquired in the first four semesters, there are five modern spezialisations with innovative focus profiles to choose from starting in the fifth semester.\r\n<\/div>\r\n
\r\n

\r\nThe various focal points allow a choice of training within wide limits and with different content. They also provide an insight into the diverse possibilities and opportunities that lie behind the term „mechanical engineering“. The individual focal points are briefly outlined below.<\/p>

\r\n

Modeling and simulation of mechanical systems<\/h4>\r\n

Modeling and Simulation of Mechanical Systems is a research-oriented major in the area of tension between theory and experimental, practical work. All courses of the specialization bundle fundamental aspects of modern structure and material modeling methods and give you insights into computer-based simulation methods.<\/p>

\r\n

Construction and automation engineering<\/h4> \r\n

From the idea to the successful product: Innovative minds can really let off steam in this specialization! The focus here is on the entire development process, from methodical development to automated production.

In state-of-the-art laboratories, the know-how for planning and implementing products is passed on using modern IT solutions, such as VR applications. Students can also participate in research and industrial projects and experience the technology of tomorrow today.

\r\n

Energy and process engineering<\/h4> \r\n

Energy and process engineering is one of the fundamental technologies without which our modern society would be unthinkable. For example, the energy and raw materials turnaround plays a very decisive role here. Process engineering, for example, will have to work without fossil feedstocks in the future – renewable biological materials, carbon dioxide and hydrogen will replace oil and gas here.

In energy technology, the stability of power grids and the coupling of heat and power supply are central topics.\r\n

Materials and microengineering<\/h4> \r\n

Today, progress in many innovations is often still slowed down by problems with the materials used. For this reason, the Institute for Materials deals with numerous, current developments. \r\n

\r\nThese include, for example, the development of new materials for the automotive and aircraft industries, intelligent material solutions in medical technology, process engineering and environmental protection.

\r\n

Fluid Machinery (Master’s degree and above)<\/h4> \r\n

Whether pumps, aircraft turbines or hydroelectric power plants – our everyday life is determined by fluid machinery. You just don’t see it! The focus on fluid machinery imparts knowledge of turbomachinery and fluid mechanics and supplements this with knowledge of materials and mechanics.\r\n<\/p><\/div>\r\n

\r\n

NEU: Sustainable Energy Systems und Circular Process Engineering (Master\u2019s degree and above)<\/h4>\r\n

Starting with the summer semester 2023, we offer the English language specialization „Sustainable Energy Systems and Circular Process Engineering“, which deals with energy and process engineering topics.\r\n

\r\nApplicants who do not have sufficient German language skills have the opportunity to apply for it and receive approval from the examination board to study in this exclusively English language specialization. Of course, our German-speaking students may also choose this specialization.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n
Requirements for Sustainable Energy Systems and Circular Process Engineering<\/a><\/div>\r\n
\r\n<\/a>\r\n

Course applicants who have not obtained their higher education entrance qualification at an English-language institution or who are not native English speakers, have been awarded an English language Bachelor\u2019s degree or demonatrate the necessary language skills by submitting their Abitur certificate, must provide evidence of the required English language competence in accordance with the enrolment regulations by achieving the following or comparable results: TOEFL 550 (written), 215 (computer-based), 79 (internet-based) or IELTS 6.0 or higher.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n

It makes sense to choose the same major in both the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. Changing the specialization is possible in principle.

An exception is the specialization „Fluid Machinery“, which is offered exclusively as a Master’s program.

\r\nFor bachelor graduates of energy and process engineering, the specialization in turbomachines is an equivalent alternative to energy and process engineering (EVT) with a stronger emphasis on the disciplines of turbomachinery and fluid mechanics.
