Requirements

Are you interested in technology? Are you majoring in mathematics in your Abitur? Do you also enjoy scientific subjects such as chemistry and physics and don’t roll your eyes in annoyance here? Then studying at our faculty could be something for you! The requirements under which our students start their studies are very different, some have taken advanced courses in relevant subjects such as mathematics or technology, others “only” have a basic course level. In all cases, it is important that you are interested in technical issues and motivated.

You do not have to complete a compulsory internship or pre-courses in preparation of your mechanical engineering studies. However, we recommend that you complete part of your mandatory internship prior to your studies, as well as attend preliminary courses. More information you find here.

Admission

The mechanical engineering program at the Ruhr University Bochum has an open admission. Open admission means that prospective students who meet the admission requirements for the corresponding degree program do not have to go through an application process and can enroll directly in the program.

With a university entrance qualification (usually the Abitur), the basic requirement for studying mechanical engineering at the RUB is given. But also studying without it is not impossible.

For open-admission programs, you can usually enroll until the start of lectures for the corresponding semester. Enrollment for a winter semester is therefore possible from the beginning/middle of June until the corresponding start of lectures. You can find the exact deadlines here.
