FAQ Prospective students and students

Design and format

How is the internship report to be structured?

There are very few guidelines in this respect. For this purpose, you should think about a logical structure on your own. In any case, a report should contain a cover page and a table of contents. In a maximum of one page, you should give a chronological overview of your internship and introduce the internship company. This is followed by the main part of the report in an extent of the given number of pages. End the report with a conclusion, the length of which should not exceed one page.

What is the ratio of text to photos, illustrations and drawings?

The proportion of text should predominate. A text-image relationship should always be established with pictures, photos, illustrations and drawings.

In what form should the report be submitted?

The report should be submitted as a loose sheet collection (not stapled or perforated), inserted in a two-sided transparent display cover (not a brochure cover with a perforated edge).

What font size do I use? How big should the distances to the paper margin be?

There are very few requirements in this regard. Students should format the text of the internship report independently and appropriately. As a guideline, a 12-point font with a line spacing of up to 1.5 can be selected. The margins should be approx. 20 mm all around.

Is it bad if I wrote a longer report?

No, a longer report is generally not a disadvantage. Nevertheless, you should make an effort to be as detailed as necessary in your presentation, but as concise and precise as possible. This will serve as an exercise for your future professional life, for example, in which you will probably also be given guidelines about the maximum number of pages in a document.

Does the report have to be handwritten?

No, the report does not have to be handwritten.

Do I have to make sketches or drawings for the report in CAD?

No, both CAD drawings and handwritten sketches are allowed. Clean hand sketches can be scanned and inserted into the report.

Which photos, illustrations, drawings, etc. may I use in my report?

As a matter of principle, illustrations and drawings should be created by the student. Photos should be directly related to the activity, a production object or the working environment. If possible, external material should be avoided.

In which form do I write my report? Is the first person allowed?

Writing in the first person is expressly permitted and desired.

Berichtsinhalt

Do I have to report on every single activity?

No, you do not have to report on every single activity. You should report on a selection of activities that you consider particularly relevant.

I experienced a lot during my internship. What exactly should I write about now and what do I leave out?

DThe reports should generally document your personally performed activities and experiences with tools, machines and workpieces. For this purpose, you can make a selection from your notes made during the internship. It is therefore not necessary to report on every single activity. You should report on a selection of activities that you consider to be particularly relevant.

Does each week need to be reflected in the internship report?

Yes, in the primary internship it is advisable to structure the report by week. In the professional internship, it does not always make sense to structure the report by week.

Yes, in order to describe an extensive or repetitive activity, summarizing the activity of several weeks is possible and even reasonable if the appropriate page limit of approximately 1.5 pages per week should be met.

Are there differences in the reports on the primary and professional internships?

Yes, in the primary internship the report content is primarily centered around individual weeks, while in the professional internship the content of the same activities can be grouped together over several weeks.

What do I report on if my activities are subject to the confidentiality rules of the internship company?

Ideally, you should talk to your contact person at the internship company about your internship report in advance, so that you are clearly informed at an early stage about what you are allowed to report on. A report must be written in any case.

Are the reports checked for plagiarism?

JYes, the Internship Office checks incoming reports with a plagiarism software. If a report is found to be plagiarized, the associated internship will not be recognized. In particularly serious cases of fraud, the examination board may also be informed.
