First information about the internship
What kind of internships do I need to complete?
As an important requirement for successful study and with regard to later professional activity, practical training is an essential component of our bachelor’s degree program in mechanical engineering. Therefore, two internships over a total period of 20 weeks are mandatory. A first basic craft internship of six weeks should, if possible, be completed before the start of the course, as experience has shown that there is little time for this during the course of study due to examinations, university internships, excursions, etc. in the lecture-free period.
The specialized internship of 14 weeks should be completed in the 7th semester.
Why do I have to complete a mandatory internship?
The purpose of the internship is for our students to gain a basic technical understanding through practical work. The experience gained and skills learned make it easier for them to start their studies, especially in technical subjects such as design engineering and materials technology.
The basic internship is only secondarily intended to teach basic craft skills. Primarily, it is there to prepare the intern for his or her studies. The specialized internship, on the other hand, is intended to complement the studies in order to deepen acquired theoretical knowledge with practical relevance.
