Perspectives

The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) degrees open up excellent career opportunities for graduates of the “Sales Engineering and Product Management” program.

The content structure of the degree programs takes into account the increasing demand for engineers in management and especially in the field of technical sales. Labor market studies show that the importance of sales in particular is constantly growing, and the role of sales engineers as a link between customers and companies is becoming increasingly important. Companies therefore offer excellent entry opportunities in these areas.

The bachelor’s degree leads to the first professional qualification. Bachelor graduates meet the industry’s demand for young professionals. The master’s program is aimed at graduates of the bachelor’s program as well as bachelor’s graduates of similar programs who may already be working in practice. The master’s degree prepares students for management positions and qualifies them for doctoral studies.

Occupational fields

There is hardly any area of daily life that does not involve mechanical engineering in some way. Whether in traffic engineering (cars, trains, planes, ships), in housing technology (household appliances, heating), in medical technology (medical devices, prostheses, skull implants), in sports and hobbies (sports equipment, cameras) or in large-scale scientific projects (aerospace) and in energy technology (power plants, offshore technology).

In all these areas, it is necessary for sales engineers to recognize the wishes and needs of the industry and bring them into their company. They enable their companies to design products in such a way that they are successfully launched on the market. They accompany the products from development to market maturity in the company (product managers), distribute the products on the relevant markets at national and international level (sales engineers) and recognize which services are required by the market together with the product and design these services (service managers).

Whether you decide to start your professional life after your bachelor’s or master’s degree, the career fields of our academically trained graduates are very diverse. An article on the job outlook for sales engineers can be foundhere.

Earning potential

Not only are the job prospects in engineering good; the earnings prospects are also promising for engineering graduates. Salary surveys show that the income opportunities in technical sales are much higher than in other engineering fields.

VDI-Verlag regularly publishes salary studies that present the prospects for various industries, federal states and career levels on the basis of reader surveys.
