We are a body elected by the students of the Mechanical Engineering student body and represent the interests of the students in various committees. These include, for example, the FSVK – an assembly of all student representatives – and the examination board (further information below under “Committees”).

We deal with a wide range of topics at regular meetings. These range from the approval of new examination regulations and the appointment of a new university employee to the planning of the Campus Festival and other events. There are also introductory events for first semester students, such as the tutorial, the first semester trip and the first semester breakfast.

You can also contact us if you need old exams, want to find out about our work or have any other questions during your studies. The office of the Mechanical Engineering Student Council is located in room IC 03/145,but you can also contact us by e-mail or telephone (0234/32 – 25545).

Committees
  • FKS

The Faculty Commission for Structure, Spaces and Finances (German: Fakultätskommission für Struktur, Räume und Finanzen) is a small advisory body in preparation for the Faculty Council. The committee mainly serves to gather information, especially with regard to the Faculty Council, which always takes place one week later. The student council sends two council members to this committee, one of whom acts as the main representative and the other as a deputy. Accordingly, only one representative is normally present.

  • FACULTY COUNCIL

The Faculty Council (German: Fakultätsrat) is the highest body in the faculty and is responsible for many important decisions. These include new examination regulations, decisions on the appointment of professors, etc. The two representatives of each student council are directly elected and not appointed by the student council. However, the list is drawn up in consultation with the two other student councils at the faculty – SEPM and UI – so that two representatives from each of the councils are representatives on the Faculty Council. Attendance at every meeting of the Faculty Council is absolutely necessary and at least one of the representatives should also be present at the meetings of the student council before and after the Faculty Council meeting.

  • EXAMINATION BOARD

The examination board (German: Prüfungsausschuss) is a committee within the faculty that is responsible for ensuring that the study and examination regulations are adhered to at all times. All decisions outside the normal examination routine are made here. This includes not only the recognition of other examinations, postponement of examinations in the event of prolonged illness, reports of plagiarism and attempted cheating, but also appeals by students against examinations. Decisions on individual cases can also be made in special exceptions.

  • FSVK

The Student Representatives’ Conference (German: Fachschaftsvertreter*innenkonferenz) is a committee that is an informing, coordinating, organizing and supporting body of the student representatives of the Ruhr-University Bochum. It is therefore also an advisory body for the student parliament and the AStA.

  • EVALUATION COMMISSION

Every semester, the Evaluation Commission (German: Evaluierungskommission) reviews the students’ assessments of the professors. The quality of teaching can be determined indirectly via the evaluations. If certain lectures are considered particularly poor by the students, the committee can consult with the lecturer.

  • DOCTORAL AND HABILITATION COMMITTEE

As the name suggests, the doctoral and habilitation committee (German: Promotions- und Habilitationsausschuss) deals with all the formalities of a doctorate. The continuation of ongoing doctoral procedures takes up the majority of a meeting. For the student representative, this committee is interesting in that you get to know many faces from the faculty and are always informed about current research topics.

  • QUALITY IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE

The Quality Improvement Committee (German: Qualitätsverbesserungskommission) votes on the progress reports on the use of quality improvement funds and can make planning proposals for the appropriate use of quality improvement funds. In cooperation with the other status groups, it attempts to improve teaching at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

  • QUALITY IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE (cENTRAL)

The QVK votes on the progress reports on the use of quality improvement funds and can make planning proposals for the appropriate use of quality improvement funds.

  • PR-KOMMISSION

The PR Commission discusses issues relating to the Faculty’s public relations work.

  • EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES OFFICER

The decentralized Equal Opportunities Officer (German: die dezentrale Gleichstellungsbeauftragte) represents the students of the faculty and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the plenary meetings of the Equal Opportunities Officers. Furthermore, she has an advisory role in the Faculty Council and in appointment committees and must therefore be invited to every meeting by the chairs of the committees.

  • INTERNATIONALIZATION COMMISSION

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has established the Commission for Internationalization (German: Kommission für Internationalisierung) for the special tasks of international contacts and the support of Bochum students abroad and foreign students in Bochum.
