Financing
You can find practical tips on financing on the website of the International Office. The most important funding opportunities are the Erasmus scholarship for stays within Europe and the Promos scholarship for stays outside Europe. These are awarded by the Ruhr-Universität itself. In addition, you can find further contact points here to find out more about scholarships and grants abroad.
ERASMUS und PROMOS
With PROMOS and Erasmus+, DAAD-funded scholarship programmes, the Ruhr-Universität Bochum has many funds available each year to support students who want to spend a semester or do an internship abroad. The advantage is that these funds are only available to students of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
MyStipendium
MyStipendium offers you the most comprehensive database in Germany with over 2,000 funding opportunities. An intelligent matching algorithm helps you find scholarships that fit your CV. The initiative has received several awards from the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft.
DAAD
At the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD) you will find further information on scholarship offers for students, graduates and lecturers. The DAAD offers a wide range of funding programmes. A visit to the DAAD website is highly recommended. In addition, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) have jointly launched the initiative “studieren weltweit” (study worldwide). The aim is to convince young people of the advantages of studying abroad. Especially if they are undecided.
Auslands-BAföG
Auslands-BAföG is an important financial support for semesters or internships abroad all over the world. If you receive BAföG in Germany, you will certainly also receive BAföG abroad. If you do not receive BAföG in Germany, you can still receive BAföG abroad! This is because the eligibility limits for foreign countries are broader. Be sure to inform yourself about BAföG abroad!
LabExchange
LabExchange awards funding to Master’s students of all faculties of RUB, and advanced Bachelor’s students if applicable, for the realisation of short-term research-oriented stays abroad, e.g. laboratory, research internships, research work in archives, libraries, university collections, collaboration on research projects, etc. The stay abroad can be carried out worldwide at a foreign partner university and must be supervised by a faculty member of RUB and the partner university.
Be sure to apply for a scholarship! The selection criteria are diverse and not only for highly gifted students. The criteria can range from your field of study to your social commitment. Every fifth foundation does not find suitable scholarship holders and is just waiting for your application. Final theses and internships are also supported.
